About Us

​The Department of Psychology is an academic unit within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Iğdır University. The main aim of the department is to understand and explain the individual, society and human behavior with a scientific approach. The vision of the department aims to improve the quality of life of individuals and societies through scientific studies in the field of psychology.

​ Currently, there are 3 academic staff in the department. However, there is no undergraduate or graduate student intake yet. The Department of Psychology aims to strengthen its educational and research activities by expanding its academic staff in the coming years and to become an important regional and national center in the field of psychology.


History

​The Department of Psychology was established with the proposal of the Rectorate of Iğdır University to open departments and majors within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and with the decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated 16.06.2011 in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of the Law No. 2547 amended by the Law No. 2880.

​In accordance with the proposal of the Rectorate of Iğdır University to open departments and majors within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on 25.07.2014 and the same article above, with the decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated 24.09.2014, it was deemed appropriate to establish four departments within the Department of Psychology.

Fields of Study​

Fields of Study for Graduates of Psychology Department
1. Clinical Psychology: Clinical psychologists assess and treat individuals' mental health. They can work in institutions such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private clinics.
2. Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Industrial and organizational psychologists deal with issues such as motivation, productivity and job satisfaction of individuals working in businesses. They can work in places such as human resources departments and consulting companies.
3. Educational Psychology: Educational psychologists study learning processes, student-teacher relationships and the school environment. They can work in schools, universities and educational institutions.
4. Social Psychology: Social psychologists study individuals' social relationships, group behavior and social interactions. They can work in places such as research institutions and non-governmental organizations.
5. Developmental Psychology: Developmental psychologists study the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of individuals. They can work in areas such as child and adolescent centers and counseling units.
6. Forensic Psychology: Forensic psychologists study psychological issues related to crime and the justice system. They can work in institutions such as courthouses, prisons and police departments.
As a result, psychology graduates can pursue careers in a variety of fields such as clinical, industrial, educational, social, developmental and forensic psychology. Graduates can work in different roles such as academic studies, research, counseling and practice.
